Yesterday, December 14th, 2006, was the 15th anniversary for Mr. Morrill Worcester of Worcester Wreath Company in Maine to lay 5,000 wreaths at Arlington National Cemetary. For 14 years, Mr. Worcester has been doing this with no fanfare, just his personal desire to honor those who served.
This year, he expanded the vision and enlisted the aid of the Civil Air Patrol for the placing of memorial wreaths during a special ceremony at each of the over 230 State and National Cemeteries, and Veterans Monuments across the country.
There is now a petition to nominate Morrill Worcester For The Presidential Citizen Medal. They need 10,000 signatures. Please SIGN THE PETITION.
Also this year, starting on Sunday December 10th, members of the Patriot Guard Riders escorted the wreaths destined for Arlington Cemetery all the way from Harrington, Maine to their final destination at Arlington. Reports are still flowing in from the members of the Patriot Guard Riders who participated in this escort, but by all accounts the members were very proud to be able to lend their support to Mr. Morrill and his family, and to once again show their respect in this special way to our fallen heroes. Assisted by local and state police agencies and fire departments across nine states and the District of Columbia, the escort also garnered media attention from Maine to DC.
In addition to the escort, the Patriot Guard also participated in many of the local ceremonies at the national cemeteries across the nation. Here is one account from PGR member John aka "Digits" at the Long Island National Cemetery.
I am proud to be affiliated with such patriots, and sadly I will stand with them once again tomorrow for PFC Travis C. Krege of Cheektowaga, NY. He died along with four other soldiers on Dec. 6 in Hawijah, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle while on patrol. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
