The first reasons is that my dad was an airplane mechanic. He was never in the service, but he was a civilian mechanic in war time of the 1940's. From the time I was very young I heard his stories about planes and flying. "Daddy, tell me a story!" was often met with some tale about a plane. Ironically, he didn't really like to fly. He was also licensed to teach other mechanics.
Another reason is, the technology is just so cool! I'm a closet geek (I love Popular Science....shhhhh, don't tell anyone!). Now come on, tell me this stuff isn't cool.

Hi, there…just wanted to let everyone know that I am donating a percentage of my book sales – through Veterans’ Day – to Project Valour-IT! Why not donate to this very worthwhile cause and read a great book at the same time? You can read a sample chapter on the “Sneak Peek” tab at www.ReportingForDoodie.com. Please help support our wounded soldiers by spreading the word! Thank you!
